Caring For The World Films Receives Prestigious Film Festival Award

3/27/2013

Picture
Dallas,  Texas (March 27, 2013) Oak Cliff based Caring For The World Films announced today its film, Return To San Marcos, is the recipient of the prestigious Remi Award at the 46th Annual WorldFest Houston International Film Festival, which will be held April 12th-21st in Houston, Texas. Worldfest is the longest running international film festival and past notable winners include Steven Spielberg, George Lucas the Coen Brothers, David Lynch, Ridley Scott, Brian DePalma, Spike Lee, Oliver Stone and Ang Lee.

The acclaimed and multiple-awards-winning documentary short is the second of a three-part series which profiles the efforts of humanitarian aid organization Cape CARES whose mission work is conducted in the remote villages of San Marcos Honduras. Return To San Marcos is shaped by the perspective of 15 yr old high school student, Luigi Breve, who volunteers as a translator for the organization. Coming from a life of privilege, he is deeply affected by the poverty he sees while working for Cape CARES. Luigi partnered with director Debi Lang and returned to San Marcos the following year to document his experiences and share them with his classmates at the prestigious Discovery School in Tegucigalpa. His goal is to bring awareness about poverty and inspire young people to become involved in humanitarian issues.

Asked about the film’s nomination,  Breve, who now attends college, says “It is humbling to know the film continues to  motivate others to help the less fortunate and I am proud to have worked with Debi and Caring For The World Films on such a great and inspiring project.”

This is the film’s third festival nomination and  fourth award since it premiered in 2010.
