Hearts In The Himalayas Selected For Film Festival

Dallas, Texas (September 9, 2013) – Caring For The World Films announced today that its film Hearts In The Himalayas has been named an official selection of the Chicago International Social Change Film Festival.  It was selected among hundreds of films, which showcase inspiring stories of struggle and solutions to humanitarian crisis and human rights issues around the world.  The documentary profiles the extraordinary work of Himalayan HealthCare (HHC), a driven and dedicated non-governmental organization (NGO) that provides medical care, education, and income generation opportunities to the people of rural Nepal.

Hearts In The Himalayas is a project over three years in the making by award-winning humanitarian photojournalist Debi Lang.  In the film, HHC volunteers, led by co-founder Anil Parajuli and his dedicated Nepali staff, endure harsh conditions and treacherous terrain during a trek to bring much needed medical and dental care to people living in the remote Dhading region of the Himalayas. The film integrates footage shot during an Everest-size expedition fraught by challenges with a powerful narrative as Parajuli takes the viewer into the brutal conditions the villagers face everyday.

“I am honored and humbled that my peers have recognized our work. It is a win not only for me and my team, but also the HHC volunteers and the people of Nepal, “ said Lang.  "Being selected for screening at the CISCFF underscores our decision to showcase the truly inspiring story of this effective Nepalese humanitarian organization.”

The film festival invitation comes on the heels of receiving the 2013 Humanitarian Award at the Third World Indie Festival in San Francisco. This is the 12th honor awarded to the documentary since its release in 2012.  The festival takes place September 27th-29th in Chicago IL.
